BEHAVE … WTH???

So, the night ended on an upbeat note … Even though I was tag-team REPRIMANDED by my spouse AND my accountant!  I’m SUPPOSED to watch my spending next year … Um, Yeah – OKAY … Says these two DAY WALKERS.  When I casually pointed out, “It [my interest in new hobbies – thus spending money] keeps me off the streets at night!” – THEY tag-teamed me yet again …

  • 1) “ We live on a dirt road …” [by DH – the ‘LOVE OF MY LIFE’] … Quickly followed by …
  • 2) [My ACCOUNTANT!:] “It’s okay … Go For A Walk!” … WTH!?!  NOT FAIR!!!

WHATEVER … they OBVIOUSLY have TOO MUCH testosterone, and NOT ENOUGH CREATIVITY to know what they are talking about!!!

So, off I went to ANOTHER asset  ‘Leaving the ER to Move-on-to-Greener-Pastures’ Party … Are you kidding me???  It takes so long to train you medical people just right!?!  OK, I get it … BE HAPPY, and all that!!!  … Anyway, we had a great time – with lots of adult beverages and silliness!!  And – while in the establishment, I believe I met someone that has placed her dearly departed, STUFFED POODLE  into her hair weave – to keep NEAR-AND-DEAR … You tell me???  (Umm … nobody’s head is THAT wide?)

dead-poodle-weave

I got through my 24 hours (- my TAX HELL) … And now that I’m on the flip-side – and, DH is sleeping soundly, AND I have time to reflect:  I have new projects, hobbies and ideas SWARMING through my head … You just can’t tell Picasso to BEHAVE!  – OR EVEN ME (!!!) … JUST SAYIN’!  Winking smile

The unsung hero … (AKA WWU)

No – it’s not me, if I were the hero – I would be quite vocal about it!

The true hero is the octogenarian (AKA Little Old Man) ON blood thinners  WITH A NOSE BLEED (read: it will never stop):  He’s so stoic and brave, as his frail wife sits quietly in the corner of the treatment room, wide-eyed and scared, watching her life-partner (and the healthier of the pair) endure hours of torture designed to help … Finally the decision is made – as no amount of pressure, cautery, anterior packing or nasally instilled medications are helping – posterior packing is the only solution … (I’ve described this process before here)

grinch heartHe’s quick-witted and curmudgeonly, but so amazingly tolerant!  There’s no way a 20-something could handle it (shoot, I couldn’t either – truth be told) … The situation pulled at my (nearly non-existent, Grinch-style) heart strings … making me a hovering, devoted, caring nurse (read: BETTER nurse – very ‘Florence Nightingale-esque’ – without the STD’s) … right up until his beastly, bossy, snarly (umm … EVIL) adult child showed up in the 11th hour, to ‘save the day’ … I pray him an easy, speedy recovery and promise NOT to wish any voodoo curses on his offspring.

Meanwhile – my week ahead:  My tax preparation is DONE!  YAY and (double) happy dance time!  We meet with our accountant tomorrow … But I start the day with this month’s DARN SANE meeting.  While I accept tomorrow morning will stink (emotionally) for me, I am soooo hopeful the mood doesn’t continue post-tax appointment (HEY, it could happen!) …

Either way – once I make it past the next 24 hours, the remainder of the week is MINE! NOTHING  but studio-time, darn it!

And, while I still have a hot-tub in my front yard … it is progressing.  She’s getting a no-maintenance face lift … Nice!  I’m hoping DH will have her installed and running by the end of this week.  [fingers crossed]

Uncle!! …

We’re making slow but steady progress.  The problem (outside of the fact that neither one of us wants to be doing this) is that our appointment is just a few days away … While I enjoy all of the small businesses DH and I ‘run’ – I’m not loving this task!!  Time to buckle down and get busy …[WHINE] Tax-prep-2012

But – when I take my ‘allotted’ breaks … I’m scouring the ‘net for inspiring ideas for the studio.  I’ll be spending some time dedicated to recycled (…repurposed – to be P.C.) bottle projects – as I’m loving these items I found on Pinterest/the web … Too CUTE!

Yeah, I know – back to crunching numbers organizing receipts … Wait – was that a butterfly???

Hmmm … not so much

Day 2 of my self-imposed tax time-out didn’t fair so well …

How can anyone concentrate when surrounded by such cute four-legged kids?  I have pictures …  Zeus loves babies – He couldn’t get enough of Yogi Bear (4.5 wk old Yorkie):

Zeus-and-Yogi-Bear   Zeus-loves-Yogi

And Zonie loves ‘posing’ AND really wanted to play with Mia:

Meanwhile – I had insomnia last night (Now there’s a SHOCKER!) and decided to ‘start’ a new knit hat (“Chunky Mocha” pattern from Yarn Market).  Anyway, while the taxes didn’t get organized, my hat is done … Smile  Here’s someone modeling (NO, it’s NOT DH … I would NEVER ask him to model a ‘girly’ hat).  Winking smile

I’m sure we’ll make major progress with the taxes today!  [Fingers crossed]

I’m in love …

mbennettWith my husband (of course).  BUT – if DH were to dissolve our marriage tomorrow, I would throw myself at save myself for … Manu Bennett.  The problem (besides the fact that he doesn’t know me) is that he’s in New Zealand and I’m here … But, I happen to know someone (who knows someone) that works with Mr. Bennett.  I’m trying to talk my coworker into taking a trip with me/setting up a meeting … Hey – IT COULD HAPPEN!!!  And I’m certain Mr. Bennett needs a cranky, bossy, older, PRIVATE DUTY  nurse …

In the meantime (WWU) – Thank Goodness the weekend is over!  All I’m gonna say is this:  You cannot be too sick to wipe your own backend if you’re well enough to argue with the doctor that you should continue the narcotics medications that brought you to an ER in the first place – just sayin’…

My week ahead:  Outside of pulling together a custom glass order, my studio will be cold this week.  I’ll be knee-deep in a self-imposed time-out, getting the taxes ready for our accountant.  Ohhhhh [whine] –  I don’t want to think about it …

I wonder if I can get DH to dress like this … Winking smile

manub

He’s a little bit country, a little bit Fred Sanford …

But, I’ll keep him.  This is the view as I pull up my driveway right now … Umm, ok.  Doesn’t everyone have a hot tub in their FRONT YARD?  No … only SPECIAL  people???  Like ME!?!  The really cool news is DH got it running.  He fixed seized motors, got the pumps operating and all other mechanical STUFF that runs in a working tub.  It will soon go onto the deck of my glass studio.  It’s so good to be a patient brat!

hot-tub

And the patience continues to reward [me] … as he (that would be DH) also completed and installed the ‘Pool’ stained glass window.  This finally  finishes the ‘game area’ of our family room.  I love it – so I’m showing it off …

I’ve got just a little time to put together a ‘gonna miss you’ going away gift for a coworker moving on to ‘greener pastures’ … all sarcastic and loving [my style].  Then I’ve got to get some sleep before another fun-filled night in the ER.

Still recuperating … but eating helps (?)

I work nights.  I do this INTENTIONALLY, as I am –apparently– a vampire.  (I’d say the non-blood kind – but my patients [whose blood I take by-the-vials] would probably disagree …)  I am ALLERGIC to mornings.  So, my week has been messed up since I got a SANE call only minutes (about 120 of them) after falling asleep.  But no, this phone call had me up and reporting to the ER in the A.M., hanging out with the day-shift crew (all great people, but still) … Now, as we roll into Friday, I finally feel like MAYBE  I can do something – besides eat!  Thank Goodness – since I go back to work tomorrow.

With all this – my family has eaten well this week: Steak & potatoes, Cream Cheese Spaghetti casserole, ribs-n-beans, stuffed cabbage (with rice-pudding-chaser!) … AND, we’re planning for grilled bacon-provolone-wrapped shrimp tonight.  (???)  [Have I mentioned my innate ‘skill’ of cooking for an ARMY?  Recipes triple on their own when I step foot in the kitchen!]  *There might have been some vegetables thrown in there, but I don’t remember them …

Maybe I was working my way through some viral illness?  But I will go to my grave believing my week was shot (AND I’VE GAINED 80 POUNDS!) because I had  to be out and about in the DAYLIGHT.  To add injury – SWAMP PEOPLE was a re-run this week …WTH?!?

I did finally manage to start a new project in the studio.  A fused mosaic butterfly … It’s just rough-cut … but you get the idea.

fused-butterfly-mosaic

[My ‘eating-for-8’ had NOTHING to do with the lost-soul rape victim I met, the state of our society, or any form of frustration with the human race. That  would be unhealthy transference (…displacement…???…Whatever!)  – and I know better!]

The needles are hot – the studio is warm …

Overall, it’s a pretty cool place to be right now … The weekend is over(!), and while no one in my ‘lil ER had to endure green vomit on St Patty’s day – there were some interesting intoxicants.  I, however, was in the heart ‘wing’ – ruling out one MI after another …

I finished knitting my butterfly hat … here’s my daughter (face not revealed – to protect the innocent???) modeling:

And, to prove me wrong … future Shriner poster-child DH modeling (first attempt) …

jp-hat

The hat does stretch though (it’s good to have faith), and he proved it will accommodate those with super-sized melons … I think he was going for a Vogue-pose, but all I hear is ‘Arrreaa Rrruug’   Smile

I am now ‘flying’ through a reusable grocery bag … [knitting needles clacking furiously in background].  I’ll post a pic when mine is done, but you can get the pattern here, and here is the designer’s photo:

Meanwhile – DH is almost done with his ‘Pool’ stained glass window.  Now to frame and install it … [tick, tock …]

Studio News:   My pendant shades are coming along … but I’m not thrilled with the shape.  I think I’ll try taking them just a tad further on a taller form, but … I’m also eyeing some new molds (… shhh, don’t tell DH) …

pendant-shades

Sometime this week I should  start in on the monumental task of organizing the taxes … YUCK!  But NOT today …

Just say NO!

… to GREEN VOMIT!  Seriously – if you love an ER nurse green vomit(or have any RESPECT at all – and you REALLY SHOULD, as we have access to all sorts of sharp objects, good drugs, and tubes for every orifice …) you will be a responsible leprechaun this weekend.  Do not drink and drive, and for the love of all that is HOLY – do NOT drink to the point of needing emergency care.  I do not like beer vomit (or any vomit  – for that matter), but I get cranky when I have to deal with GREEN VOMIT!  Just sayin’ …

Studio news … got some pictures taken for the shops …Hope to get some listings done soon.  Here’s a view of my photo-shoot set up.  I know, it’s totally high tech …

Photos of recycled glass experiments:  DH’s left over stained glass – in an effort to create another ‘usable piece’ … Hmm, not so much.  It reacts way differently than my (fusible) glass.  Interesting …

streaky-white-stained-glass      recycled-stained-glass

And some wine bottle glass experiments … I have some ideas for these – so will continue to play around with them [fingers crossed!] …

This unusually  warm weather (Michigan teaser weather!) has us all playing in the yard.  Here’s a picture of MIGHTY ZEUS … with his glowing majestic eyes (no thunder bolt, though).  And not to be outdone (in his own little-man way), Chauncey playing ‘King of the Rock’ … and there ain’t nothin’ you can do about it!

Happy St Patrick’s Day ya’ll … Time to get ready for work [fingers crossed!!] …

She’s a bird-whisperer too …

Oh yea … I am totally the Dian Fossey/Sigourney Weaver of birds (limited only because there are no actual gorillas around here – just human impersonators).  Let me ‘splain …  Yesterday, while minding my own business in the studio, an attacker struck (- just how he made entrance into the studio is still a mystery) … When my heart started beating again, I found the courage to investigate what rabid beast had entered my domain.  It was a[n obviously crazed] bird that quickly tried to make it’s escape by dive-bombing straight into my CLOSED window!  (See CSI evidence photo #1)

bird-print
I frantically searched for a weapon tool to move the offending fowl (while I like to look at them from a distance, and even chum for the occasional Humming Bird or Finch– this one was unattractive, uninvited and getting way too in-my-face personal).  And then brilliance struck!  I found this  (interesting factoids included) stashed under my phone table in the corner.  It’s from the left-over stuff that never made it out during the studio renovation.  Why do I have a toilet bowl brush NOT in the bathroom, you ask?  Because I have a nice, new one that sits in a HOLDER in the bathroom – one that coordinates with the decor, duh!  (And, I’m pretty sure this one never actually cleaned a toilet, so why throw it out? … I’m also obviously clairvoyant and knew it would be needed someday!)

EWLT-tool

I wish I had photos of the bird/event – but alas, I was alone and frantically trying to save lives (mine and then his) … I was doing a whole lot of whispering, too as I carried that bird on the toilet brush Emergency WildLife Transporter (or EWLT, for short), while staring into it’s open beak, watching it pant and willing it NOT to peck my eyes out!  (But this picture sums up the look of the bird pretty accurately.)

attacking bird

Demonically possessed bird – with top secret Ninja skills –  just waiting to strike!

We (‘Freddy Krueger’ and I) made it safely to the deck door, where he promptly flew off… never once thanking me for saving his life – or even telling me his name – the Ingrate!  And I now have a bird-print on my window that needs cleaning … But, I also have a new marketing idea (EWLT tool) in the works, as well as another discovered skill.  They’ll be calling me Nurse Doolittle yet, darn it!   We’ll get around to sharing some glass photos in our next post … promise!  But now – its time for SWAMP PEOPLE!!
