BOOM!!!
My car has been hit – I’m in a car accident! Those memories are scattered. I do remember trying to move my left arm, and it jiggled and twisted … it moved – but didn’t quite feel right. I remember talking with an officer, asking him to please call my husband (I was less than 2 miles from home). Fire and ambulance vehicles, some noise outside my door. My husband talking to me, and I’m asking him to call my patient, call my boss, “I think I’m going to be late …” Being told not to move. Talking with a medic I know from my ER days. Explaining to him, we probably need to go to our local hospital vs. the stand-alone ER. Apparently I have a few compound and comminuted fractures … and he gently says, “I think a trauma center is the place to go”. A trauma center – oh, well … shoot!!!
One month, 7 surgeries, broken bones in every limb, a small head bleed, and C1-C2 fracture with fusion later (with a few hospital stories to share in future posts), and I am home. I’ve been home for two weeks. I love being home!
I’ve graduated to a power wheelchair, so I am mobile! My husband has been amazing! It will be a long road, and I don’t know what ‘normal’ will look like for me yet, but I am home! And, I am so BLESSED!!!

PS – I turned another year older while in the hospital. As far as lovely, gorgeous places to stay – I can’t recommend it. That’s a ‘No’ on the vacation hot-spot list …

Goodness. I’m so sorry. I’m glad you are recovering. As a woman of a certain age that’s been driving almost an hour each way to work for 18 years I fear something similar one day. People are in such a hurry, tailgate so much, and are so distracted. A 21 yo High School classmate of my son’s was killed this summer by somebody going the wrong way on the highway. So scary. Keep getting better.
