Weekend wrap-up … let it snow

Looks like ‘Snowmageddon’ finally hit – or I should say ‘is hitting’, as I believe they’re still calling for more today and tomorrow – this time without all the hoopla and forewarning … So we had two types of patients last night:  Those that were really sick, and those that wanted to be really sick, …

If A and B then G, else … (AKA Weekend Wrap-up)

Or something like that … It rings a distant bell for some type of math – or maybe it’s HTML coding … ??? Anyway – that’s about how much sense our new Senior ED ‘criteria’  is making right now: … If the patient is 65 or older, you must (mandatory) complete a senior assessment – …

Weekend update … puppies

Outside of the standard flu & psych patients … Superbowl weekend proved to be a fairly mellow one.  A great crew of co-workers is always a bonus!  My only gripe is this:  There should be a national law that prohibits drug-seeking, drama-craving, possom-playing dingbats from presenting to the ER at 6:53am.  There is no compassion …

I’m OK – and you’re OK – cuz I say so ….

So – after commiserating with co-workers, it has been decided … I’m not ‘demented’, depressed (*inappropriately so), or an alcoholic (*when compared to my cohorts) … so all is well!  Bring on the Senior ED!!! In other news – Yoda Kei is routinely taking 4 tsp+ per feeding … way up from previous weeks …  And …

Weekend Wrap-Up

I never even looked to see if it was a full moon, but based on our patients … I’d say so!  This weekend’s complaints can be summed up as GI flu (never-ending!), OB (and) GYN, and Psych (Behavioral Medicine, to be P.C.) … much of it routine, some of it humorous, and some heart-wrenching (read: mid-pregnancy …

The Ask-A-Nurse Radio Show …

“I HAVE A(n) IDEA …” – I say (in jest) on this anniversary of a WISE man’s birthday.  What about an ER based radio talk show (… late night, of course) ? “Caller – you’re on the air … What question can we help you with today?”  And the next 20 minutes are spent explaining …

The kinder, gentler weekend …

So amazing to think back on how very painful last weekend was (the PTSD-style flashback dreams still haunt me) and compare it to this one:  The crazy, chaotic universe known as [our] ER still had it’s fair share of drama (darn 20-somethings, anyway), tragedy (patient/families learning in the ER about their new cancer diagnosis), frustration …

Everyone needs love …

Update for the full moon weekend:  I’m pretty sure I got to meet a few people that have strong beliefs regarding ‘Keeping It All in the Family’ (brother/sister –> husband/wife couples) … we didn’t actually discuss it, but … Yep, I’m pretty sure.  [Hark – is that a banjo I hear in the background???]  And – …

So maybe I won’t be quitting my ‘day job’ …

Had a great night in the E.D. last night.  It wasn’t crazy busy – but that’s not why.  I had a bunch of great patients – normal, pleasant, appreciative (ok – not all, but more than not) … how cool is that?  But wait – there’s more … I had a stroke patient who came …
