I would be excited …

But, I’ve spent the last few days with tech support, on the phone, on computer-assisted conference calls, and with actual house calls.three-fish  My fancy-pants printer did NOT want to communicate with my computer, at all.  Well … they’re finally talking – AND learning to play nice together, thank you very much.  (No really – special thanks to Patrick, Bruce and Bob!!!)

So, once I get a few more pieces of data/supplies, and a kink or two worked out … I’ll be making some pretty coooool stuff!  Just wait and see … [I’m also watching photoshop tutorials like a wild woman, trying to master some mid-level and advanced photo manipulation techniques … My brain is feeling mushy!!!]

As for actual studio work – I continue with the beach/ocean themed items.  This week it’s a trio grouping of fishes.  I’ll be adding some sandy/grainy frit along the bottoms and then we’ll see what the kiln does with them – but here is today’s photo.

And, I’m working on a special order wind chime (like this) … so the letters are cooking:

family sun catcher    letters in kiln

l will have the coffin kiln busy for the next few days while I fuss about in the studio.  We’re also getting the garden planted (finally!) … I still have this hole (where Maggie should be), but I’m learning to live with it.

And, my Grandma sat at the bedside, reading greeting cards yesterday.  What an amazing woman she is!  She continues to take small steps on the road to recovery …

L.A.M. –

Life After Maggie … is tougher than I was prepared for.  I didn’t realize I’d be grieving this much.  And it hits me at strange times throughout the day/night.  But, I haven’t cried today, so I feel like I’m advancing through the stages.  Maybe I’ll even sleep a bit tonight … [Oops – there I go …]

[OK – so I didn’t cry much today …]  I did play a bit in the studio.  I’m working on an ocean tile (with irid glass).  Just about time to see what stage one of kiln firing does for it …

And, I have some requested – along with a few new – dichro cabs done; And my Santa Box is ready for final fire-polishing in the kiln:

L.A.M. includes some new equipment:  That printer weighs a ton!  I have a special (training) date set up for next week.  Watch out digital images on glass –  I’m comin’ …

PS:  My Grandma continues to move towards recovery, at an 89 year-old-pace.  As a nurse, I am hopeful – while recognizing the huge obstacles she needs to overcome …

Beyond baby steps …

Minute by minute??  Yeah – that’s about right.  Here’s the scoop:  My grandma is rallying; She has a trach, peg tube, foley and a tube in her gallbladder; per the specialist doctors (rehab), she suffered a major neurolYorkie-fritographyogic event at some unknown time …  Is she down and out?  Nope – NOT My Grandma.  She’s tracking and talking (mouthing words).  So, let’s get ready for Round 3.

In the meantime, my 14 year old Yorkie – Magnolia Rose – my sidekick, my peanut, my ROCK – is sick.  She won’t eat … AT ALL … So, we’re forcing antibiotics and sips of water.  Minute by minute with my Lil Peanut.  Until she tells me ‘NO MORE’ …

So, needless to say – the music is LOUD and my studio is rocking (Maggie likes it that way).  Here’s what I’ve been working on: New listing in my Artfire shop; Santa box lid (this one square … fingers crossed for kiln success!) for my next Colour deVerre box; all 3 kilns are loaded and running – here’s the coffin load;  and my newest mold – a mid-size poppy ‘plate’; with my plotter back on-line, I’ve been making requested/new dichro cabs … here’s what’s firing in the production kiln; and here’s tonight’s etched pieces.

And – the projects and ideas are lined up, just waiting for me to lose myself for a minute  … cuz, it helps me cope.

We interrupt this technology …

To bring you an afternoon with internet searches and technical support.  My favorite … trying to figure out why something computer/electronic isn’t working.  But special thanks to Mike at USCutters, and my fancy plotter is up and running again!!!  (Now, I have no idea why my other, less expensive Eclips is misbehaving … but that’s another afternoon/story…)  Bent-sensor-in-Graphtec-CE5000 Here’s the culprit.  Yep, you guessed it …The ‘Y position’ sensor got misaligned, thus creating the never-ending ‘Y-Position-Error’ alarm … Duh!!!  Winking smile So, now I have some new and requested badge reels and pendants in the works.  Along with an ongoing work-in-progress ‘beach theme’ collection (so much more to come … thank you Delphi and Ed Hoy!) …

And some other items I’m excited about:  future spoon rest, bowls, etc. in a pretty sunflower pattern; new nightlights to be listed soon; and check out this gorgeous Bullseye glass … [Sigh …] I’m not exactly sure what I’m making from it yet, but it’ll be beautiful!  Smile

Only in Michigan …

Can you go from 80 degrees to 40 degrees inside of 24 hours in May … Not complaining, just still in awe … while my teeth chatter.

Got through Mother’s Day 2014.  It wasn’t awful, although there was plenty of drama in the E.R. … But, no emergency enemas – so it qualifies as a WIN in my book.  I had a moment of weakness, and agreed to pick up additional hours on Monday, which has me wide awake at 5am on Wednesday (today) …

I have continued to work through my (mental) stress in the studio – cutting, designing, bleeding and producing.  I have photos.  I’ve also been doing some therapeutic shopping, my style (via the ‘net).  My Grandma is not doing well.  My Grandpa is hurting.  I hate this!  Which means I will continue to work (and probably shop) like the ‘Hounds of Hell’ are circling … [And that thought has me mentally designing my next piece …]  Anyway – pictures:  Two Hearts pendant; my (tribute to the movie) ‘Frozen’ cast box; a gorgeous Michigan May sunset (from 5/10/14); and my latest enamel paint tiles (waiting to be fired) …

The beat goes on …

After sleeping for some 13 hours, I woke to our first summer day!  (I am absolutely NOT complaining about the temperature!!!)  So – we spent some time getting the garden in order (rototilling, weeding, general clean-up).  I do believe I will sleep well tonight, but I had a blast playing in the dirt!

With our warm weather, I did wait until evening to get my kilns going.  I have my first- ever lidded bowl/box going (pictures to follow), along with my coffin load (of this and that) and another stab at ‘frit-envelopes’ …

I also avoided starting the studio AC unit today, but – may rethink that tomorrow.  Too much water-loss (sweat) can’t be good …

Prayers & 3 kilns …

I’m staying creatively busy today.  Grandma is in surgery, getting her artificial airway and feeding tube today.  Arrgghhh!  I hate thinking about it – so I’m trying really hard not to … Any louder and my music will be heard in the next county; if I work any faster, I’ll run out of band-aids for my fingers … And, I’ve got all three kilns loaded, with the next batch(es) cut/ground and ready to cover 3 days of firings.

Here are some photos:

It’s Complicated …

This weekend, while at work someone asked me a couple of questions:

1.  How long have you been a nurse?

[Oh! … Oh!  Wait … I know the answer to this one!!]  “Umm … 24 years.”

2.  Do you still like it?

[Oh … Umm … Well … So, you see – it’s complicated… (You need to think ‘SHORT ANSWER!’ – so …) Umm …] “Ah … yes!”

BUT[!], it’s complicated:

  • I love knowing how the human body works [- even my basic understanding] …
  • I HATE whiny … [like really, REALLY hate it!]
  • I love helping someone to feel better [… when everything else they have tried did not work].
  • I hate not being able to help someone [ … who deserves it].
  • I love being good at what I do … [This is NOT conceit.  Seriously.  I am great (statistically) at starting IV’s.] [Shakes salt over shoulder and rubs Buddha’s belly.]
  • I hate going too many hours without eating and/or peeing, while my back is ON-FIRE, and I’m currently adjusting to a financial pay-cut, while I bend over BACKWARDS to find common ground with the drug-seeker who has unrealistic goals for this particular emergency visit …
  • I love the concept of ‘bettering’ [… Is that even a word? …] human-kind.  [Oh – SHUT UP, Florence!]
  • I HATE knowing what comes next [because of my basic understanding of the human body] …

So, to wrap up this week:

1.  I [am pretty sure I] helped my oldest friend’s grandmother to feel better.

2.  I’m doing my best to help [certain] family [members] adjust to the fact that my grandma is dying … [The long way – with a trach, peg tube and nursing home involved.  BTW, Grandma – I love you … and this is NOT my idea!]

Yeah … It’s complicated.

P.S. – Thank you, God for [so many things – including my family,] my studio, my babies,  and my [music] playlist [on LOUD!] …

Prayers and happy thoughts

My Grandma is in the hospital again – darn gallbladder!  She is NOT feeling good.  This afternoon when we were visiting her, I decided I didn’t like seeing her as a patient (looking tired and sick in the ICU bed) about as much as I don’t like being one (a patient, that is).  Please send prayers and good thoughts her way with me.

In the meantime, the Yorkie pups are here to make you smile … (That’s Calvin in the front, with his sisters … and part of big, fat Aunt Kat in the back.)
